Microchip PIC vs OOPIC - gt9601a - May 16 7:56:00 2002

I am interested in tinkering with microcontrollers, and I'm about to
buy a development kit. Can anyone give some pros- and cons for using
a OOPIC over a PIC from Microchip (or any other microcontroller for
that matter)?

I understand that the object oriented code is powerful, but there are
so many PICs from Microchip with lots of functionality. One drawback
that I have noticed is the cost of the compiler for the PIC family
while the OOPIC software is free.

Any opinions or advice?

thanks from a beginner,

Dave
