WISP628 problem - nford85 - May 19 20:55:00 2004

Hi

I have successfully used a homebuilt WISP628 for nearly 6 months
now. But just suddenly, now, when I try to program any pic I get an
error message like <i>IOError: verification failure: different data
at
address 0034: file=85 target=80</i>. Then if I try to run the pic,
it
seems as if the old program was still in it.

Has anyone else had a similar problem to this?
Is there an easy solution to fix it?

Any suggestions are welcome
Thanks
Nick

More details please, like target chip, maybe attach the .hex file?

Re: WISP628 problem - nford85 - May 20 7:15:00 2004

Hi

I have tried to program these PICs just with the blink an LED code :
16F84A, 16F628, 18F242 and 18F252.
Each time I try to program the PIC I get that message.
If I read the code back from the pic it is just the code that was in
the pic before I started having this problem (I compared it with my
backup code).

Anyway, here is the HEX code I was previously trying to get into a
18F242.

After the failure message, what is the voltage on the target's MCLR pin?

The voltage is about 12.6V > Wouter van Ooijen

So basically you are selling PICs that you got as free samples ?
Free samples that anyone can get from Microchip simply via their
website?

Re: Re: Ebay Item (New) - John Baker - May 24 6:52:00 2004

Not at all. If I were to waste my time acquiring free samples, I would use them, as it is not worth the time or the hastle. I bought and recieved as presents over 200 PICs over the last year or so, and do not need them. I am not selling all of my PICs, just the ones I don't need. I purchased the majority of the PICs from Jameo, Digikey, and Mouser. Microchip is a great company, and I would never do anything to rip them off. I started out with Basic Stamps, and migrated to PICs with the help of Randy Jones from gitchbuster.com. If you'd look at another one of my ebay autcions, I have some Parallax items for sale, as well as more PICs with an extra rs232 level chip. Also, after you mentioning this, Microchip's website looks like it only allows 5 chips per order. That would be a lot of hasle to gather a bunch of the same kind. Lastly, I am not a theif, nor would I break the law. I will have more Items up on Ebay, from othe assorted ICs, to even a homebrew sensor I have developed for my fire-fighting robot. So please, keep your
accusations to yourself. I am against anyone who would try to rip off Microchip, and just need some extra $ to continue with my robot.

Best Regards,
John Baker

Uh, actually, I'd have to agree with holopoint. Looking at your first link (item 3817624320)... That's the same box that Microchip sends samples in... it seems suspicious.

Uh, they let you order 5 kinds, 3 of each... interesting that YOU are selling 5 kinds, 3 of each! (well, with the exception of the 16F877A, which you only have one of... I guess you needed to take two out to fit in your RS-232 chip)

I've ordered PICs from Digikey. They send them in tubes, not in Microchip's sample boxes.

Re: Re: Ebay Item (New) - John Baker - May 24 15:49:00 2004

Well, the outside of the box does have several Microchip logos on it. About 2 months ago, I got 3 of these boxes from my aunt for my 18th birthday. Included were various PICS. I never thought to count them. Also, I just went back to Microchip's site, and completed a free samples order. It was very easy, and I did select 15 PICs. However, it does look as though it's only for a company's use. As I said before I'm not a theif, nor would I break the law. The PICs I bought did come in a tube now that you mention it. I will check with my aunt to see where she came about these chips. If they are indeed free samples, I will not list anymore of the ones that came in boxes. I will continue to list some of the ones I've used, and the tubed ones though. I guess I could give the boxed ones to the robotics team at my school. I thought Microchip couldn't get any better, and here they are giving away their product!
I am very sorry for any misconceptions, and will not let this happen again. I don't want to take up any more of this list's time on this issue.

Thank you both very much.
