A discussion group for the PICMicro microcontroller. Also called the Microchip PIC, this list is dedicated to the use and abuse of this fine, simple, microcontroller. Close to topic posts are welcome, ie. general electronics.

Programmer (Willem) - sirtiffguy - Oct 1 0:24:00 2004

Has anyone tried, or looked at the Willem Programmer? It claims to
do both serial and parallel programming for PIC Atmel i2c ee/eprom
and other thingeys?

Heres a site for it: http://www.willem.org/
A cheep supplier: http://www.sivava.com/

On sivava there is a version released that claims to have software
version 0.98c which enables programming of a tonne more pics incl 18
series. Version name is Advanced Willem Eprom programmer.

Any feedback or suggestions as to simular models would be cool
(preferably something that can do i2c and atmel)

Chris

Hi,

I have one of the Willem programmer, but from what I can remember, the ZIF
socket can only be used for EEPROMs and such, and for PICs only ICSP and a
DIL socket (narrow) is provided. For a bit more you can consider the
PICQUICK, which has a ZIF socket for all current PICs, ICSP port and can do
some other uCs and EEPROMs too. It goes over parallel port and has really
good, professional software. http://www.pic-tools.com

If you're not bothered about the ZIF socket, the USB version of the
programmer called Presto will do ICSP on PICs, and also some Atmel uCs and
EEPROM too.

Regards,

Mike
