I have a programmer that can handle the PIC16F84. It is a kit from ramsey: http://www.ramseyelectronics.com/cgi-bin/commerce.exe?preadd=action&key=PIC1 I would like to know if I could program PIC16F84A-20/P's with it. I would buy them from jameco if that matters. Thank you, Justin Woodman |

It only lists 3 useable pics for that programmer :-( The 16F84A might program with the unit and then again it might not... there may be some programming differences between the 2 pics even though they are basically the same chip. Send an email to ramsey and ask them..they probably know. The 16F84/A is pretty much obsolete now anyway... the replacement is the 16f628A ... it is cheaper and more powerful. You can pick up a complete pic programming package that can handle most all of the pics for just 20.95 and that includes the shipping. http://www.sparkfun.com/shop/ look under the starter packages for the PG2C. It comes assembled with the programmer, icsp cable, serial cable and one 16f628 pic chip.... may not be a good choice if you use a laptop PC though. I bought a programmer for 59.95 (assembled and with zif socket) from carls electronics and it is superb! http://www.electronickits.com/kit/complete/prog/ck1711.htm Glitchbuster has the 16f84A at 4.67 but the much better 16f628A is 2.24 ... the older less able chips are all more expensive you see. http://www.glitchbuster.com/ A good tutorial on programming the 16f628a is here http://www.winpicprog.co.uk/pic_tutorial.htm p.s. I'd buy from glitchbuster instead of jameco..he has great prices and a 1.85 flat shipping fee no matter what you buy. --- In , "justinwoodman" <justinwoodman@y...> wrote: > I have a programmer that can handle the PIC16F84.
