Any special tricks that is needed to get PICstart+ to work with Wxp? I had no problems with it on W98. Have tried different ports, set'em up manually....no joy! The ports themselves works with other equip. so they must be ok. -- ******************************************* VISIT MY HOME PAGE: <http://home.online.no/~eikarlse/index.htm> LAST UPDATED: 23/08/2003 ******************************************* Regards Eirik Karlsen |

Maybe that the problem is that MPLAB requires the old comm.drv driver (as
stated in PICSTART troubleshooting)?
XP doesn't have this driver. Anyone got their PICSTART working under Wxp?? Eirik Karlsen wrote: Any special tricks that is needed to get PICstart+ to work with Wxp?

I am using MPLAB and PICSTART Plus with Windows XP HOME. I have had no problems,
however the firmware in my PICSTART is an old version and I get a message:
"A newer version of the PICSTART Plus firmware operating system is available,
and may be required for programming some devices. The newer version is located in
your MPLAB IDE\Programmers directory. Refer to the topic, 'Upgrading the PICSTART
Plus Operating System' in the PICSTART Plus Help file for instructions."

I used MPLAB with a Warp13a (as though it were a PicStart -- not using the Warp software) on XP Home edition a while ago with no problems. It would have probably been a 6.4x version of MPLAB though and not something recent. I've also used the Warp13a on a laptop with XP Pro via a USB-Serial adapter and via the serial port on the docking station with no problems. (Again probably a 6.4x version of MPLAB but *maybe* 6.5x.) I don't remember doing anything special in either case.... --Scott --- In , Eirik Karlsen <eikarlse@o...> wrote: > Maybe that the problem is that MPLAB requires the old comm.drv driver > (as stated in PICSTART troubleshooting)? > XP doesn't have this driver. > Anyone got their PICSTART working under Wxp?? > Eirik Karlsen wrote: > > > Any special tricks that is needed to get PICstart+ to work with Wxp? > > I had no problems with it on W98. > > Have tried different ports, set'em up manually....no joy! > > The ports themselves works with other equip. so they must be ok. > > > > > > -- > ******************************************* > VISIT MY HOME PAGE: > <http://home.online.no/~eikarlse/index.htm> > LAST UPDATED: 23/08/2003 > ******************************************* > Regards > Eirik Karlsen |

Yes.
But I use a separate serial card, I could not get *any* serial port progger working
with the on-board serial port.

Good point, I may have used the USB-serial adapter on my desktop system since I have a front mounted USB connector. Also, it may be that the serial port on my docking station is a USB device -- I know that if I use a HD or CD in my docking station it shows up in linux as a USB device -- perhaps the serial port is the same way. --Scott --- In , "Wouter van Ooijen" <wouter@v...> wrote: > > Anyone got their PICSTART working under Wxp?? > > Yes. In case it might help someone:
I just put in a NetMos 9835 SIO card, had a bit of trouble getting it in below com5 but got it right in the end. And now my old trusted PICSTART works perfectly again.
