A discussion group for the PICMicro microcontroller. Also called the Microchip PIC, this list is dedicated to the use and abuse of this fine, simple, microcontroller. Close to topic posts are welcome, ie. general electronics.

General Electronic Group - Paul_Lav - Apr 16 16:38:00 2003

Hello, could anyone recommend a general electronic group please, had a look but can't find a popular one!

I have a general electronic question, sort of to do with the pic, I have a DAC which gives out 0V - 5V, how do I make this voltage 0V - 12V? Some sort of amplifier? I have a gone brain dead!

Thanks!
Paul

I don't have a suggestion for a group but you might want to
download "Op Amps For Everyone" from www.ti.com. Look at chapter 4
where single-ended op amp designs are analyzed in depth. Then find a
single-ended (perhaps Rail-To-Rail) op amp that can handle +12V V+ or
a little more - maybe +15V.

Assuming you don't need a lot of output current. If you do, use the
op amp to drive a power transistor and take the feedback from the
output of the transistor. This is also shown in the book.

I am NOT an analog guy but I really like this book. Available soon
at Amazon.com ($56) or free download. Free is good! --- In , "Paul_Lav" <paul_lav@y...> wrote:

Re: General Electronic Group - Author Unknown - Apr 16 17:38:00 2003

Do you want a to take a linear 0-5 volt range and convert it to a linear 0-12 volt range?  This means 2.5 v out of the DAC will give you 6v out of the amplifier.

How much current do you want at 12v?  This can be critical in the design of the amplifier circuit.

If you just want a very low current at 12v, then an op amp from a -15 to 15 volt supply should do you very well.  If reaching 0 isn't so important, you should be able to use a Norton amplifier with a 0 to 15v supply. If 12 isn't so critical you can reduce the supply at 12 v,

Of course, if linear isn't so important,  there are other solutions.

You might try a google of other search on "op amp tutorial"

Best,

Larry

Paul,

An OP-Amp with its offset set to 0 at 0 Volts with a gain of 2.4 will
produce a range of 0 to 12 Volts.

Hi,

Yes i do, been reading up last night and found my amplifier section, i knew i had done it! Current is not important as the output is for the speed control into a servo controller. I better check up on it though!

Cheers!

Re: Re: General Electronic Group - Emmanuel Gonzalez - Apr 17 6:57:00 2003

try this circuit...you can use any kind of op-amp as long as you put +/-15V
supply in the op-amp.

Try http://www.electronic-circuits-diagrams.com/forum/ contains about 1700
