Discussion Groups | Rabbit-Semi | Re: Reading Shaft Encoder Signals

This is a group for folks designing and programming embedded systems using the Rabbit Semiconductor C-programmable microcontroller. Rabbit Semi is a spin-off from Z-World who makes a variety of embedded modules and tools. This group is not affiliated with either Rabbit or Z-World, but is a user forum for sharing ideas, asking questions, flaunting knowledge, and other typical user group stuff. The Rabbit is a powerful uC, supported by a full-featured C-compiler.

Hi Tim

It depends which rabbit product you are using.
Some of them, such as the RCM3100 an so on, have built in hardware to assist with shaft
encoders. This works with the 'quadrature' type encodes, where you have two signals, and
from that you can decode both the shaft speed and rotation direction.

Do a quick search on www.rabbit.com for 'quadrature' for more information.

The help from the RCM3100 Page on quadrature decoders is here:
