I'm about to start working on a university project and I'm looking for
a microcontroller which is has had uclinux ported to it.

A list of ported uC's is here: http://www.uclinux.org/ports/

What i'm looking for is either a coldfire, blackfin, or dragonball uC
which had been solided onto a plugin PCB, with a DIP-like interface
which I can then connect to and be expanded upon (via bus expansion) a
breadboard.

Has any one seen something like this / any ideas / links?

100 pins DIP?

You would need that many pins for memory bus.

on 32 bit controller, 32 data bits / multiplexed with addressing bits
for the bus, maybe another 20 pins or so for vcc, rs232, reset, and
IO etc. surely this could be available on 40-60pin DIP?

Are we talking about uC available on the market or one you want us to
make?  For latter, it can be done with 2^^32 dollars.

haha, I'll pass on the $2^^32 offer for now, but i'll keep it in mind.

uClinux images are available both as source-code and binary images
which can be loaded onto the uC specified on that site i posted in the
original message (http://www.uclinux.org/ports/).

so what i'm looking for is one of those uC which has been soldered
onto a PCB (with a couple protection diodes etc etc) which provided
the pin outs that can be plugged directly into a breadboard for
prototyping and development. for example what diligent inc did for the
cool-runner FPGA (http://www.digilentinc.com/Products/Detail.cfm?
NavPath=3D2,400,798&Prod=3DCMOD)

surely something like this would exist, I'm just struggling to find
it...

That's 256K Flash and 32K SRAM.

For example, a small port:

"The Arnewsh 5206 target has 2 images listed, the small is a cut down
image that will run comfortably in the standard 1MB RAM. The other is
a full featured image with all networking and utilities. You will need
more than 1MB RAM fitted to you Arnewsh 5206 board to run this big
one. All other boards have sufficient memory in their factory state to
run a full uClinux setup. "

I guess a quarter of the kernel can fit in Flash and enough stack
space to printk panic.
