Hi - I was wondering, what microcontrollers are there out there that have FPUs? I'm working with a board that uses an Atmel AT91SAM7X256 (Atmel ARM uC with ARM7TDMI core), and it is perfect except for the lack of a FPU and maybe the max speed of 55Mhz. So what is available as a replacement? Ideally I'd like to see this: 32b FPU SPI (at least one) UART (at least two) TWI CAN timers...

Does anyone know if Atmel has a product lifetime road map for their AVR devices? I can't seem to find one on their web site. I just noticed that the ATTiny26 is "not recommended for new designs" and would like to know how long they are expected to be produced for. -- -Mike

Hello, I'm just an electronic hobbyist (and physic teacher). I'd like to make a sort of chronometer for my Go-Kart. It's working fine now (using WinAVR as C compiler for a microcontroller (uC) ATMEL AVR ATmega8535) but I use a character LCD display. I would like to use a graphical LCD now. But I also would like to have some widgets (like in GTK) Unfortunately I don't know if it is pos...

Is Atmel dataflash 5v safe?

Despite scouring the datasheet, I cannot find the answer to this question: Can you safely apply 5V inputs to Atmel Dataflash devices? (vcc=2.7V) It quotes the "Absolute Max input voltage" as 6.25V, so presumably it won't blow up, but will it work? I'm using a 5V processor and would rather like to not get involved in lots of level shifting. -- Tim Mitchell

Greetings everyone, I have a specific application I want to put a atmel processor to. The processor would be along the lines of a AT89C2051-24, ideally something I can program easily say using their ISP system. I have a proto board design I found on the net for said mcu and it pretty well fits what I need for this. However. Since I have NO experience in programming one of these thi...

Hello, I've designed in an instrument board an ATMEL CPLD. For that purpose I had to use their "low cost" software. First I tried the CUPL tool, but it was too much bugged. Then I used their VHDL "prochip designer" which is based on altium tool and their proprietary fitters. After some fighting with VHDL (my first project) I finally had it all OK with simulation, synthesis and fitting (PA...

We are designing a microcomputer based on the Atmel AT91RM9200 controller. We are gong to give it 128Mb of SDRAM, 4M X 32. I am trying to decide whether to use 2 x 4M x 16 or 1 x 4M x 32. The reference design uses 16 bit wide memories, which appear to be slightly cheaper than the equivalent 32 with perhaps more manufactureres. What do people feel, what are the advantages of each, easier layo...

Hi folks, I'm looking for a micro controller for an embedded project. I need for this project 3 UARTs and an external memory controller for 1MBytes (probably RAM) but a DSP is not necessary because I'll not have to deal with heavy calculations. I've found the Atmel SAM3U2C (http://www.atmel.com/dyn/products/product_card.asp?part_id=4566) which seems pretty good for what I want to do but the st...

Hi all, I recently started a project to make improvments to one of our old products containing an ethernet module controlled by an Atmel T89C51RD2. The ethernet interface is unfortunately hardwired to auto- negotiate, which has caused some problems due to the fact that the selected speed is thus 100MBit/sec....quite a lot for the MCU to content with. The crystal used at present is 16MHz...

I made some projects using some ATM91SAM7 devices (S256 and now obsolete A3) and now I need something speedier/bigger to let this design grow. The best solution is to go with the ATSAM3 family (I already have an ATSAM3U EVK), speedier/better core with the same great peripherals I know. BUT Even if Atmel presented the ATSAM3U more than one year ago it still missing from the distributi...
