Part data sheet and CAN bootloader documentation recommend "releasing" PSEN before the end of RESET when using PSEN=0 as the "hardware condition" forcing the on chip CAN bootloader to execute. The Atmel Demo board just has a DIP switch to ground to force PSEN=0; it doesn't "release". Even though the Demo board doesn't use PSEN as an output, shorting this pin to ground must not be a g...

I've got a Atmel 8051 (T89C51RD2) with 64K flash. Can I use part of the program flash for data storage? From the datasheet it seems like I should be able to use the on-chip low-level routines to program up to 128 bytes with the PROGRAM DATA PAGE call and read bytes with the MOVC opcode. I'm envisioning reading some data from flash into RAM, doing some processing and then writing it back t...

Hello-- I'm in the process of designing a new embedded system using the Atmel AP700x series of 32-bit embedded processors. There are currently three processors in this series: (1) AP7000, (2) AP7001, and (3) AP7002. Both the AP7000 and AP7001 have BGA packages and integrated LCD controllers. The AP7001 is packaged in a 208-LQFP, and does not include an integrated LCD controller. ...

Hello. I'm having a problem with a H8S MCU ( 2328) uart I use to comunicate witch a GSM module. First I was using a Atmel MCU instead of the H8S and all was working fine. But when I have replaced the Atmel with the H8S the communication dosen't works. I have seen thant the problem is that when the GSM module tries to respond to the H8s, the signal level ( H8S-Rx ) doesn't reach to zero ...

It appears that the SDRAM controller built into Atmel's AT91RM9200 ARM 9 chip only supports a burst length of 1. Exactly what use is an SDRAM burst with a length of 1? What advantage does it have over an ordinary (non-burst) SDRAM access? Simple noobie question about the Atmel AVR STK500... Can the XT1 and XT2 pins on PORTE\AUX used to supply a clock signal to an external device (explanation below)? As I am learning to program and interface the AVR's I have a 16550 UART on a separate experiment board and I see that the 16550 needs a crystal or clock source on pins 16 and 17 (XIN and XOUT)... can the XT1 and XT2 pins be ...

I am testing the sample project ADS7843_EXAMPLE1 with SAM3S-EK2 and Atmel Studio 6. I am using SAM-ICE (SEGGER) for debug via JTAG. I set a break point at main function and debug the project, and it did stop at the break point. The first line of code at main function is a definition of a local variable. uint8_t uc_result = 0; However, I didn't see this local variable being shown at "L...

Atmel has a press release out for an ARM9 product line that includes on chip Flash. I have looked at their web site and I don't see anything about this other than the press release. At the bottom of the release they refer to the SAM9260 on their web site, but this part has no on chip Flash. Is this the 0 kB version of a family with Flash? Or are they no where near silicon on the part they...

Hi All, Where it is preferable to store log/history parameters: in FLASH or in on-chip EEPROM ? I am using AT89C51ED2 8-bit MCU from Atmel. It has 2k EEPROM on-chip and 64kB Flash. EEPROM programming features: 1) On-chip 2048 Bytes EEPROM. 2) Supports only Byte programming ( no page programming). 3) Programming of each byte 10msec-17msec(Atmel says). 4) 100K write cycles. Newbie question : Suppose that the Atmel AVR internal flash memory is to small to store my new asm program into it, and suppose that you can't make your program smaller than what it is (graphics are in SRAM, did it all in ASM and so one. ps: this is a theoretically question). Is there a way to expand the program-flash memory of the AVR. I'm writing in ASM and I rather not want to use pseudo c...
