I am looking to deploy a GSM based device in the USA as well as various places around the world. The module we are using comes with PTCRB and carrier approval, however as I understand it we need to get our own PTCRB and Carrier approval, based on these approvals. We will only be selling maybe 200 a year in the USA, are we liable to get under the radar or do we need to get approvals, not very ...

The default GSM alphabet defines only 128 characters (plus some escaped extensions). It uses a 7-bits encoding that lets a maximum of 160 characters in a *single* SMS. Now, the character "small A letter with acute" (http://unicode-table.com/en/00E1/) is absent in this alphabet. Why can I send a *single* SMS with 159 "normal" characters (only numbers 0-9) and one "small A with acute"?...

Hello. I'm having a problem with a H8S MCU ( 2328) uart I use to comunicate witch a GSM module. First I was using a Atmel MCU instead of the H8S and all was working fine. But when I have replaced the Atmel with the H8S the communication dosen't works. I have seen thant the problem is that when the GSM module tries to respond to the H8s, the signal level ( H8S-Rx ) doesn't reach to zero ...

Answers of AT commands are parsed using "\r\n" delimiter. In other words, the GSM modem transmits messages starting with "\r\n" and ending with "\r\n". AT+CMGR answer (read SMS) is strange. It is composed by: \r\n+CMGR= , ,[ ,] [, , , , , , , ]\r\n \r\n \r\nOK\r\n As usual, I parse this answer receiving blocks of

Processor is Atmel AT91SAM7XC256 connected by GSM modem. The client has specified "encryption". I think it needs a formal RTOS and Secure Shell; client says "get it working ASAP first and we'll add encryption later." Any recommendations? btw the eCosPro SSH middleware seems to be server only, not client. TIA, Sean_Q_

Hi, I'm just developing a small alarm/supervising system for my friends. The main idea is that the microcontroller receives data from different sensors (eg. anti-burglar ones, or even some sensors evaluating the health of an older/ill person), and automatically sends SMS notifications to the group of registered mobiles, if any dangerous situation is detected. The whole thing will be op...
