How to choose a firmware partner: Ask if it's policy to enable the watchdog timer. The correct answer is "no". If they say "yes" then you know that their code is dodgy, and/or their hardware is vulnerable and if the WDT is not going off occassionally, it probably will after the next modification. Cheers Robin

Hello. I've been trying with limited success to interface a 18F452 uC to a SL811HS USB host/slave IC. I've pretty much debugged the software, but have hit a nasty brick wall in hardware. I seem to be reading garbage from the IC. Ie no matter what address I look at it's the same value. The really bothersome thing is the omnipresent value changes every so often. Is there anything I need i...

I'm trying to select a microcontroller for an application, and having little luck sifting through the masses of information on the web. I need: 1) Two async serial ports, capable of running at 9600 BPS. I'd greatly prefer this to be in hardware; bit-banging is too much work, and hard to do in realtime with other things going on. RS-232 drivers are not necessary, but the ability to accept i...

Hi, I'm deploying a prototype of a distributed system to benchmark some algorithms before committing to final hardware. I have a large supply of 1GHz, 1GB diskless workstations that I'll use (headless) as they are freely available, small, reasonably (ha!) low power, etc. Almost everything is written in portable languages so the fact that this is x86 doesn't impact my codebase. For ...

I'm looking for whatever documentation I can get my hands on, electronically or paper, on a few very old technologies. Old enough that I can't seem to find much on the web. Specifically, I could use schematics, manuals, bus timing, and just about any other information on the following: Multibus 1 (general, timing, power, etc.) Intel SBC 80/10 (sometimes known as SBC 80/10A) ...

Dear all, I am using an Analog Devices DSP from the old days (ADSP21020) and the g21k toolset (even though the VisualDSP would do exactly the same in this respect). When using the runtime header, the vendor provides three calls to setup the hardware, the environment and the processor prior to the execution of the main() program. The mechanism is very simple: the reset vector table look...
