Im trying to learn microprocessors, and Im a bit confused about flash vs eeprom. 1. Does my program that I download (via ISP ribbon cable) go into the EEPROM or the FLASH? 2. Can my user program use the EEPROM at run-time or must it be programmed ahead of time? 3. How does a bootloader work? (If I store a bootloader in flash, will I need the ISP connector to program the chip anymore...

The problem I have is that while the wintel pc (xp) has acquired its IP & subnet via dhcp from my ISP it won't route packets to another subnet (e.g. 192.168.100.xx). I set manually an ARP entry to the (DPS) machine it has to route to but no banana, it still wastes the packets down the gateway of the ISP-s subnet. Now why have MS made this not to work is beyond me, my DPS systems will route d...

I've just been wading through the Atmel In System Progam PDF files, (mainly trying to catch up on all they things I've avoided) I'm trying to work out, for a new project, the best way for the user to download new system software, though a PC and internet. Currently I use boring old 8051s programed in C, but have used AVR's a few years ago, with the Imagecraft compiler. I could move ove...

This may be OT, apologies if so. I've tried to locate a group that caters particularly for PIC programming, my ISP doesn't seem to have one on the server. Maybe if there is a more appropriate resource someone could point me there. Anyway, here goes. I've just moved from many years of pleasure with HC11 onto PIC. The programmer is a WARP13a, a neat little unit that many readers probably know...

Greetings everyone, I have a specific application I want to put a atmel processor to. The processor would be along the lines of a AT89C2051-24, ideally something I can program easily say using their ISP system. I have a proto board design I found on the net for said mcu and it pretty well fits what I need for this. However. Since I have NO experience in programming one of these thi...

Hi, I'm using a AT89C51ED2. Sometimes the application needs to start the Atmel ISP bootloader, e.g. to enable re-programming the flash. Has anyone here taken the leap to a Mac based AVR development system? I'm attempting to use AVRdude with an AVRISP mkII programmer and it's showing signs of life, but it doesn't seem to be happy when the ISP cable is not connected to a target system. Specifically, the red/green status LED on the AVRISP doesn't light up at all, when I was expecting it to at least indicate the connection is bad...
