Hi, I have an 8051 controller that communicates over RS485 to other 8051 controller. The communication is half-duplex at baud of 57600, and it works great. So far so good. Lately, I'm trying to make the 8051 device talk with a PC, since it is 57600 and I have RS232 RS485 converter this should be simple. I'm encountering strange problems at the 8051 reception, I never received what I se...

I want to communicate with 10-15 micro controllers from the host micro controller. Each node(independent micro controller) may be around 500 meters distant from the host. The no. of micro controllers and the distance may increase. I feel I should use RS485. Anybody, please let me know what should be done for RS485 ? I am OK with RS232. Please help, Thanks !! rajeshbij@gmail.com

I am designing an application for an embedded computer (PC/104) and I need to attach a FLOW switch w/ Pulse. It basical generates pulse output proportional to the rate of flow. One example is http://www.clarksol.com/html/crfo_crfa.htm .. I have a Digital I/O board connected to my computer via RS232 and I can read other types of inputs such as Start/stop switches, etc.. My question...

Can someone suggest a reasonably-priced monochrome camera module (I can live with color but don't need it), VGA-resolution camera module with some kind of buffer and low-speed interface; SPI, I2C, RS232, etc. SPI would be my preference. I need two of them, and perhaps two spares, to build a demo platform for a student to work with very simple stereoscopic machine vision. Currently he is wo...

I'm looking into possibly connecting a 6DOF sensor into a RS232 serial port. I was thinking something like the Analog Devices ADIS16350, http://www.analog.com/en/mems-and-sensors/imems-gyroscopes/ADIS16350/products/product.html I'm wondering, what sort of hardware (eval boards, converters, cables) would I need to do this? I'm more of a software person, so I don't know much about the whole ele...

Hello guys, I am wondering is LPC-H2214 from here http://optimal-microsystems.com/store/index.php?cPath=24 has USB host? It is not clear to me what "USB-RS232 virtual port" means. I am looking for ARM7TDMI based microcontroller with USB port so I can plug USB peripherals into it and would like to have eCos running on it. Can anybody help? Best regards, Dmitry.

Hi, We need a good embedded CPU board for our next project. It must be equipped with a relative fast processor, lots of RAM, Ethernet (TCP/IP), optionally WiFi, Flash-card interface, at least 3 RS232/RS485 ports, some digital I/O, low power and last be not least low cost. The CPU board will be installed on our custom motherboard, where some of our custom hardware will be located. ...

Hi, Could someone describe to me how a microcontroller programmer can program a microchip, using RS232 signals. Taking a simple JDM programmer to program a PIC16C84, I don't understand how RTS and CTS signals, which are onnected to data and clock pins (RB6 and RB7, if I am right!) can send program to the chip. I am confused ! I wanted to simulate the JDM circuit (using PSPice) to figure how the...

I am looking for small low cost processor ideally with 4 16 bit capture on interrupt timers. Its to measure the minimum bit width of 4 RS232 sources, which can have a minimum bit width of 8.2uS. This has to be done continuously with the results filtered etc with resulting bit width converted to its corresponding baud rate and then an equivalent 4 bit number which is output to a IO port. There...

I'm an electonic amateur enthusiast and I want to drive 20Amp 12-24v DC motors with a H-bridge controlled with an AVR. Basicly AVR will receive speed commands from RS232, and it will count quadrature encoder signals (I do not now how to do it fast yet) from an encoder attacehed to the motor shaft and it will generate ON-OFF signals for the H-bridge. Do you know any open source, ope...

Hi all, I'm new to embedded scene, and totally lost here. I'm looking to design a totally stand-alone weather station and need to select a device for this. Requirements are: * low power consumption, ability to feed off single voltage (~12V solar power) * 2x RS232 ports * Ethernet (10Mbit will be fine) * solid-state disk (regular HDDs will consume too much power, and probably won't wo...

Writing an Embbeded Linux app for a PC104/Versalogic board. Linux 2.6.14.17. Using write() to transmit data packets to another PC104 board. If I write() 30 bytes, sometimes there is a 2-5mS gap in the middle of the transmission, usually at about byte 15-20, but sometimes at byte 29--as seen on a scope. Tried using low latency setting when opening the port--but this made no difference. This...

What kind of checksum is appropriate for a data package with a maximum length of 255 byte? Is an one byte XOR checksum sufficient or should i use some kind of 16-bit checksum or is that overkill for so litle data? The data is to be transmitted on an RS232 line at 115200 kbit/s.

Due to a PCB "oops" in an embedded project, I'm wondering if anyone knows where to buy mini-usb cables with all 5 pins plus the connector shield wired through. I saw some indication that a motorola bar code scanner might have used the connector for RS232 and used all the wires, but am not doing well on sourcing those cables.
