I have some questions about the 10uF decoupling cap: 1. Is it required if I am not planning on using the ADC? 2. What voltage rating should I use? (6.3v good enough?) 3. Must it be Tantalum? I could not find any guidelines in the MSP manuals. Thanks ------------------------------------

First of all, TANK YOU ALL for all the help you bestowed upon me (so generously :) in the selection of my tolls. For now I will stay with the TI Kick start. Should this not be enough later I will probably switch to the GNU version. This will give me enough time to familiarize with the processor so I will have to fight only the new tools learning curve :) You know, TI should make the effor

Hi, This may seem stupid and I am sure I have done this in the past but I am asking anyway. I have a MSP430F2012 Micro and I am storing 10 bit ADC values (3) in memory at address 0x200 to 0x206 using the DTC. How do I retrieve these values and save them as a variable to do comparisons? Thanks ------------------------------------

Hi I need to sample two accelerometers and two gyroscopes with the MSP430F149's ADC. However, they output an analog signal in the 0-5V range. So I have to lower it to a 0-2.8V range in order to interface it with the MCU. I was wondering if it was safe to use a voltage divisor to do this (2 resistors), or should I use something more complicated like some kind of amplifier with 0.56 (2.8

Hi All, I am new to uC, I am using MSP430F449 in my project and I want to perform ADC at the rate of 20 samples/second. I am not able to understand from the documentation, how to use and set the timer. There is a field SHTx in ADC12CTL0, and in ADC12CTL1 the timer needs to be selected by SHSx. But I am confused by both these control registers and so many type of clocks. I am using 327

I am using the msp430x15, and I have noticed that one of my registers R4 has been incrementing after i begin my ADC sampling. Is there a possibility that the microcontroller increments R4 by some chance by accident, and is there a way around that? I have string searched my code for R4, and its define name and have found no incrementing. Unfortunately R4 is my last register which is caus

Using IAR. I'm trying to read the analog value on my A0 - A4 pins then generate an interrupt when done. The conversion is triggered by a timer every 1/2 second. The interrupt works, but the values are off. I can also see that the voltage on the pin, which is just the wiper of a pot(5k ohm set in the middle) between vcc and gnd, drops after the following initialization is done. I thou...

I'm toying with a little project (tachometer) to get familiar with the MSP430... I hadn't thought of using an OS before, but after seeing a few mentions of Contiki / Blubox (sp?) / etc, it appears that you can squeeze an OS into a MSP430.... The project seems simple enough for now (either do ADC or interupt on the tach signal, calculate time delay, display digits), but... So, from...

Hello All, I have run into an unexpected issue with getting exact value from ADC. According to data sheets the internal VREF+ can fluctuate between 2.4V to 2.5V. In addition, the voltage regulator (3.3V) also fluctuates between 3.234V to 3.366V. Thus, different devices provide me with different conversion data. This data often do not reach the required limit and the device does not w...
