Subject: Problem with using DCO (6MHz) as UART Clock. Greetings: I'm having an intermittent problem using the DCO to drive my UART clock. In my particular application, I have 2 MSP430F149 chips transfer data between them using the USART in UART mode. They are both configured to use the internal DCO Clock, using an external resistor of 100k on Rosc to produce a frequency of 6MHz. In orde

Hi, How can I use MSP430F2274 UART only in TX mode.I am finding it difficult to modify the sample program "msp430x22x4_uscia0_uart_06_9600.c" , how can I change this program to check UART TX function. (bcos I am using only one MSP430) I have to check whether the TXIFG flag resets after the data is transmitted from TXBUF. Thankyou... ------------------------------------

I am using the UART on the 1612 for both UART/serial as well as I2C, and configure/reconfigure it frequently. I have found that when ever I exit the I2C mode (i.e. reconfigure to UART), there is a high to low pulse generated on the Tx line (P3.4). Is there any way to cause this not to happen? Is it a fluke of the MSP? Here is my code: void I2C_Exit(void) { U0CTL &= ~I2CEN; U0CTL &= ~SY...

I'm trying to find a small MSP430 part that has both a UART and SPI hardware (1 each). I need 2KB of flash and 256B of RAM and about 5 I/O lines (in addition to the UART/SPI). Small size is important. I've been fighting with the the part selector web page for a while and haven't been able to find such a part. But, it doesn't seem possible to specify 1 SPI and 1 UART, so I may have missed...

I have a chip that is giving me data over a UART, and I have encountered a very strange issue. Under some conditions (such as another sensor being connected to the chip), the MSP stops receiving data from the UART. To debug, I took out the UART Tx line and a ground line and connected them to an external line driver (to view the data in hyperterminal). To my puzzlement, when only the ground of...

Hello all, I'd like to know what the maximum achievable data rate in the MSP430's UART is. By reading the MSP430x1xx Family User's Guide, I found out that it is one third of BRCLK, but is this data real? I mean, has anyone tested communication at such speed or near that? With an 8 MHz crystal, it would be possible to communicate via UART at about 2,6 Mbps! I believe that such high data rate

Hello, sorry for this - i think silly - question, but can anybody tell me wether I need to put pull-up-resistors to the UART outputs RXD, RTS, DTR? I want to interface a GSM modem via one UART of my MSP430F149, and concerning the manufacturer of the modem, these signals aren't internally pulled-up and "... they MAY be pulled-up with an 47k resistor...". Now I'm confused... . Th

Hi All. On a new design of mine I plan to implement a software UART with two GPIO pins of a '149 so as to leave the hardware UARTs free for other purposes. I'd like to add the ability to upgrade firmware via the software UART. I'm not really up on the whole MSP430 bootloader scene as I have always used the JTAG interface in the past. Can anyone point me to the truly relevant documents /

Hi had anybody the same problem or is a MSP430 crack which can help me. If both interrupt (UART A1 Tx and Timer B0 as 1ms timertic) are used then the system crashes. This crash can easy reproduce when in while-loop repetly send a string through UART with same millisecond pause between. Some knowledge: 1. if one interrupt is used only and the other part is otherwise realised then no c...

Hi all, I'm a little confused over the UART situation on an FG4618. On pins 2.4 & 2.5, you have UCA0TXD and UCA0RXD respectively. But, you also have the same UCA0TXD and UCA0RXD on pins 4.6 & 4.7! Why are they labelled the same? :-/ I want to use the 2.4 and 2.5 in UART mode, and I "think" i've written the correct setup code (IAR below), but the Rx interrupt isn't triggering...

Anyone got any thoughts on how to get a 1611 to send a break on it's UART outputs? I think I can't set the pin to "not special" and force it to gnd because the "special" status is forced on by enabling the UART? So would I have to turn off the UART - and if so can I just turn it on again or would I need to re-initialise any/everything? Or could there be some clever trick like sending a...

Hello, I am trying to change the flow of my program by receiving a character on UART. The UART interrupt is successful. Hi All. I'm wondering how people deal with I2C at the hardware level when they run USART0 in UART, SPI AND I2C modes in a single application & design (obviously not at the same time !). USART0 uses pins P3.4 and P3.5 exclusivle for the UART function -- no problem. USART0 uses pins P3[3..0] for the SPI function. USART0 uses pins P3.3 and P3.1 for the I2C function. So doing UART only,

Mey, because the modulation register is an 8 bit register, we have to look at 8 bits transferred by the UART. The transmitter/receiver looks for each transferred UART bit at the corresponding bit of the modulation register. If the corresponding bit in the modulation register is "1", then the transferred UART bit will get a division factor increased by 1 (bit is one clock cycle long

Hi , I need to implement a system with having 1 SPI,1 UART, 1 USB interface . The MSP430 supports at most 2 UARTs. I have a couple of USB<->UART devices shortlisted but am facing with a shortage of 1 Port. Bit Banging was a suggestion i made , but it was not feasible due to other restrictions. I tried swithcing between UART and SPI at run time as needed but it dint wrk as the m
