Wow, lets start a new user group... Just kidding :)
I too built a parallel port voice box out of this
chipset back in 83. I also ran across it a few weeks ago while
moving some old boxes into my new home. A really nice device
using Phonemes (spelling?) to create speech. I wrote speech games
on my cpm based Sony computer for it.
The datasheets are in the form of a booklet. A google search
for spo256 gets lots.

Datasheet.

Wow! I didn't know they were even still making these chips!
They use to be avail... right off the wall at Radio Shack.
The last project I used these on was roughly 8-10 years ago.
It's kind of funny that you bring these up, as I just recently
stumbled upon this project (of mine) in an old box. Surprisingly
it still works. Mine was hooked to a printer port as an
audio enunciator for blind people for a home assistance
system. (house temp, doors locked, house alarm set,
running water temp, stove still on, etc)

A copy of the spec/doc is still on line at
http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~concuss/concussor/words.pdf

What are you attempting to do with them in regards to a
bx project?
