Yes, use gnd, vcc, ttlRX, and ttlTX. Connect ttlRx to PS1 and ttlTX to PS0. You will have to set up DDRS to make PS0 and PS1 into serial port bits.

For the stepper motors, look at the website of the Seattle Robotics Society. They have all sorts of good information including putting stepper motors onto a PIC processor.

Thank you very much... I have been on this from 1 day... I have studied the data sheet of Processor.. But as i told you i m new i understand all wrong. I tried to glow my LED's present on board and i did that nicely but was having problems in finding ports to to connect GPS for TTL Communication. The same with the motor. I connected the motor but i found that connecting the motor directly would be dangerous for processor or board so i was confirming so that i didnt do wrong.

Short answer:
If it's the gps module I think it is, you need to connect it to the SCI
port, not the SPI. You'll need to connect the SO pin to both the TXD & RXD
pins of whichever SCI port you use, which will should be either PS0/1 or
PS2/3. The stepper motor I suppose you could connect to almost any GPIO you
have free, but this really depends on what exactly you're trying to plug
into it.

Long answer:
Have you bothered to look at the datasheets yet? For both the micro and the
peripherals you are asking to connect... And once you connect them as
outlined above, what then for the software? Knowing where to connect these
pins is probably the least of your concerns if you don't know what to do
with them. I don't want to discourage you if you're new to microcontrollers
as I know the learning curves can be steep... but asking what pins to
connect some ambiguous piece of hardware and label it as urgent when I have
the feeling that you may not yet know what to do with it probably won't be
of much help!

Parallax sells 3 GPS modules, you don't specify which one. The GPS should be connected to the SCI port, not the SPI. The connections should be +5, ground, rx, and tx. These would be compatible with the SCI if you connect the TTL signals directly. DO NOT CONNECT RS232 LINES DIRECTLY TO THE PROCESSOR. Set your baud rate at 4800, 8 bits, no parity, 1 stop bit.

For the stepper motor, you will need some sort of motor driver chip since the processor will catch fire if you hook it up directly.

Hello all,
I m very new to micro controllers.
I have following micro controller
68HC12 :: MC9S12DG256B
I have a GPS module and a Stepper motor. Now i m confused where to connect my GPS Module and on which pins i need to connect my stepper motor. I want to connect my GPS Module on SPI ports but i m confused how to connect GPS. My GPS has four pins, Gnd, +5V, SO and Raw. Its of Parallax. Please help me urgent.
Other one is where i have to connect my Stepper Motor? Please identify the pins... Thank you in advance..
