Hi Roger,

Thanks for the Kiel URL. Interesting, they recommend the same three books
that Mircocontroller Pros offered!

I did find an AT91SAM256 "header" board and the E-blocks prototyping board
on the MCp site, I'm anxious to try them. Olimex has a prototype board that
I'd like to try, although I'm doing fine with the Atmel AT91SAM-EK board.

Next to verify that I have properly bypassed, filtered, and powered the
AT91SAM7S256 chip on a Schmartboard (to drop-in and replace the EK in my
prototype). I'll need J-tag and debug RS-232 connectors as well; and I'll
at least wire up an LCD (parallel) and 6 key switches via SPI.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for pointing that out! I just recently had a DVD drive installed so
that I CAN read this DVD-ROM. The first time I ran into these disks after
receiving 3 AT91SAM7-EK kits and the SAM-ICE, I thought they were bad.
Luckily I also received a normal CD, and got the SAM-BA and J-stuff loaded
(yeah, I know, it says DVD-ROM on the label). The reason I figured it out
was that my new IBM notebook computer read it just fine, and it can play
DVDs.

800+ pages, a bear to print out! But it looks like it might have saved me
buying the book. The "ARM System Developers Guide" and "ARM
System-on-a-chip" books are on order. The Microcontroller shop need a
Corporate check (or something Special like that) for orders less then $1000,
so I'll have to wait a few more days for the check to come from "corporate
HQ" back east.

Agreed, SS&W is a jewel.
I have both versions of ARM ARM - they are the same, except one form
is more portable than the other. It is written with very precise and
exact language.

Apropo - these three books are "must have" (and must read) if you want
to dive into ARM architecture:

http://www.keil.com/books/armbooks.asp

plus the excelent library resource on ARM Ltd.'s own website.

A version of the "ARM Architecture Reference Manual" is available on
the DVD that Atmel supplies with their evaluation boards. It is at
\pdf\ARMDocuments\DDI0100E_ARM_ARM.pdf on the disk. I don't know if
it is the same version as is being sold. I have not used it.

I have the "ARM System Developers Guide" by Sloss, Symes and Wright
and have found it helpful.

Hi Charles,

Thanks for the comments! I ordered the one you recommended, and "ARM
System-On-A-Chip", my initial choice, I just couldn't decide (good trick,
TWO BOOKS on one company order)! Your "Shoestring" book sounds interesting
as well; maybe I'll get it for Christmas!

I also ordered Micro Controller Pros USB in-Circuit programmer (EEPROM),
"Presto". I attempted to post a question on it as well, but Yahoo rejected
my email account or something like that. All my other lists are fine with
it. I think Yahoo is changing stuff again!

I intend to program two SPI EEPROMs in-circuit (AT91SAM7) while the uP (uC?)
is waiting for SAM-BA on the RS-232 port. Is there a better way? EEPROMS
will have a large list of system messages (different languages will be
loaded), and user data (text and parameters). The controller will be able
to download program updates, messages and data from a USB drive by the user;
in which case the controller will program the EEPROMs it's self.

I have read all three.

If you want to be an ARM-head, then the best, IMHO, is "ARM System Developers
Guide" by Closs, Symes, Wright.

Also, Embedded System Design on a Shoestring

The others are not worth as much, I don't think.

Hi to the list,

I've done a little programming on the Atmel AT91SAM7S-EK demo board
using the IAR compiler. I've also been working on a board design
using the chip and both parallel bus peripherals and SPI peripherals
that is coming along nicely.

I've been looking for a good text on this processor. Has anyone
read any of these books, and have a comment? Or another book?
