And sometimes you can find EVB's on Ebay. You might also try to find
EVBU's there.

I have 100 of the 711E9 mask described in
http://www.freescale.com/files/microcontrollers/doc/errata/MSE711E9_4K81H.pdf
and all attempts to write code into the devices have failed.

The contract manufacturerer failed using some sort of BP Microsystems
unit, including assistance from BP Microssystems.

Years ago I made an adapter to convert DIP-28 to PLCC-52 per a
Motorola appnote or page in the 711HC9 manual. With this adapter the
device programs as if it were a 12kbyte 27C256. This technique still
works with old stock. Fails with the 4K81H mask, even with the Vpp
resistor and capacitor described above. Continues to fail with fresh
parts from the tubes.

What means for programming parts still works? Am guessing it can
self-program itself if only I can boot it into the special modes.

Nohau removed the programming function from the Windows versions of
their software. Is looking a lot like I need to get the old DOS
version running to try that method. Hate booting the entire emulator
(I have the "box" so don't have to boot the entire computer) for each
and every chip. Fortunately I have a $150 PLCC zif socket.

The 27C256 technique won't write EEPROM or the CONFIG register. Am
smarter now than I was 10 years ago and could now change the code to
tickle the COP bit. Would rather not change the code as my compiler
version (Introl C11 3.06 vs 3.07) has also changed. Altho I have
briefly tested code for this project with my current compiler.
