Tim,
I downloaded the Proton+ demo. Is there a document some where that lists the proper syntax for all it's commands?

As another reader has pointed out most picbasics are very capable
and I will never deny that.

In fact 90% of users will be happy with what ever product they
purchase.

I (some times) make an income from programming Pics so live in an
aloof world where things like being able to implement new commands
in a macro lanuage are important to me. But for a lot of people a
good tutorial covering stuff like what a variable is would be just
as important.

I will remember that before posting in future.

Sergio You will not here me pass any critasism on your compiler.
From what I have seen of it your doing fine job.

All the best

Tim

I must agree. From everything that has been said, not only do I now
believe all of the BASIC compilers are deficient at best, but I am
pretty sure that I don't want to spend upwads of $250 for ANY of
them. I think I will just go with the BX24. And before a flame war
starts, I know how much they cost, but I also know that they are
damn easy to work with. And since a hobby should be a source of
peace, not a source of aggravation, I think I will avoid all of the
aggravation that apparently every Basic compiler for the PICs causes.

Again, I appreciate all I have learned from asking my original
question.

War? Have I missed somthing? All I see is a passionate exchange.

The way I see it, this kind of exchange helps newbies (and even
stale programmers) to see what the failings of a product are and
what alternatives exist. I do not see it as a bad thing if a
discussion that highlights the short commmings of a product forces
that product to evolve.

When I discovered it, I couldn't belive how bad the floating point
support was in PBPro was. How many newbies will buy PBPro thinking
"ok I don't have a need for FP now, but I will in the future and
PBPro supports it" without realising just how difficult it really
is to use compared to an alternative language.

This thread is even helping me see the market from the users point
of view.

Tim, don't hide you views or your findings.

Not quite sure if I should answer this as I might perpetuat it.

I have learnt my lesson. I get very passionate about P+ and some
times I Go OT. It's difficult to keep quite some times.

Martin

I will make enquiries about the problems you are having with loading
the Demo. I have not heard of others having that problem but will
look into it.

As for my connection with the company. My connection is only that I
am an unpaid Beta tester. I was an avid user of PBpro and
contributed a lot the list they use. Look for "instant interrupts"
and my timer routines. I left that list because I became to biased
to P+ when I started using it and started point out the deficenacys
of Pbpro.

I must point out that I do not have a web page my self and all links
are to other sites.

As for the slating well it's not really what I want to do, but how
do you compare products with out one side being shown in a lesser
light.

On the link I posted to the forum where I compared the strength of
the variable allocation in P+ to Pbpro is one of only 3 or 4 I know
of out of 5000 od post's that have a dig at another player in the
field. So not sure where you got the idea that "On the site the
slating is even worse than on this site"

I must point out that my comments are no way assosiated with
Crownhill. Unlike me they are very restrained.

I do though understand that this forum should not be about that kind
of comparison making and promise not to make comparisons in the same
manor.

Using the admin logon with all rights. Have not had any problems
with installing other software. Rebooted and checked everything I
could. Switched anti virus off but still nothing.

> One more thing as you seem to be somehow connected with the
company. I had a look at the website as well and the product - is
it all about slating other similar products as this is certainly the
message myself and I am sure many others are getting. On the site
the slating is even worse than on this site. I have been
commercially programming pics for ages but have found a need to do
protos quicker and Proton seems my way out. It looks like a good
product. I am just concerned about what I have seen.
