I would *not* strongly agree. It depends totally on the skills of the
designer and implementer of the software UART.
Hardware UARTs are usually easier to use.
If one doesn't know any better than to top-post w/o trim to a
technically savvy email list then one probably should not attempt to use
a software UART.

At the moment i have got two AVR microcontrollers, with 2 UARTs,on my
mind,i.e. ATmega644P and ATmega162.I have used both of them in my
projects and has good experience with them.ATmega644P has bigger
memory capacity( both SRAM,flash memory and EEPROM) as compared with
ATmega162.Also ATmega162 lacks built-in ADCs as compared with
ATmega644P.Both have two UARTs.
I strongly agree with you, hardware UART is much more reliable than
software UART (softwared based serial port) mainly due to timing
issues.

Hello! Greetings from Brazil!
Can you recommend an ATMEGA with 2 UARTS? The reason that we will
use UART
is simple, its more reliable than software serial. I don't know if
everybody agree with that.
Thanks!

As for the other properties, you have to decide for yourself.

Hello! Greetings from Brazil!
Can you recommend an ATMEGA with 2 UARTS? The reason that we will use UART
is simple, its more reliable than software serial. I don't know if
everybody agree with that.
