hi,
The cable is only a 3 pin affair. (Ground, TX and RX)

So the DTR/RTS pins are not connected.

Cheers,

I'm now sitting here with a big smile on my face, Have have a board
with an LED connect to pin 216. And the LED is flashing. It may not
be a lot to you. but to me it means something is actually working :).

I thought I was in for trouble when the Verify flash upload failed.
But the program seemed to be uploaded ok hence the flashing LED.

Cheers,

Jas

Ah, that explains it. The Stamp has a 4th unconnected pin. (The cable
that came with it only had 3 pins connected. I've tried based on a
previous response to hold the other button down (BSL) and pressing
reset, and finally got the two talking to each other. The good news
(I hope) Is I'm now getting the CrossConnect Lite JTAG device to do
the programming etc. which I hope should make things much easier.
(I've bought the Crossworks for Arm personal edition)

Thanks everyone who's been helping. Its been much appreciated.

Without DTR and RTS you are at a disadvantage:
When the processor comes out of Reset, it looks to see if pin P0.14
is low. If it is low, then the processor will run the "bootstrap loader" program
which is what the LPC Flash tool (or FlashMagic) expects to talk to.

(The bootloader program will also run if there is no program in Flash.)

There is a convention that DTR and RTS are wired up to Reset and P0.14
(through a transistor each, and I don't remember which is which) so
that the LPC Flash Tool / FlashMagic can force the processor into
the bootloader program ready to download.

What can you do?
Assuming your cable is correct, and power is good and ...
Press and hold in the "BSL" button,
press and release the "Reset" button and only then release "BSL".
This will get the LPC2119 ready to talk to LPC Flash Tool.
(The important bit is releasing Reset before releasing BSL).

If you can make up a 5-lead cable things will be easier because the
Flash tool can do this for you.

Hope this helps,
Danish

I havent read other posts in detail, so you may have the answer already...

I think I had the same problem a months ago I purchasd mine, you might have
same kit as me, (are you using keil demo with the phillips utility).

To get serial connection working...
press the load button after pressing Load(bsl) then reset run the
app and it finds the device, I think, set crystal etc

In Keil demo
I selected flash, configure flash tools, utilities

I've got these parameters in the two boxes below, when It compiles, then
I press the load button after pressing Load(bsl) then reset, or it complains
of NO COMMUNICATION

D:\Program Files\programfiles2\philips_lpc2000\LPC210x_ISP.exe

"#H" ^X $D COM1: 38400 1

hope this helps, my memory is vague on the matter, even though it was only a
few months ago

Subject: [lpc2000] LPC-2119 ET ARM Starter Kit Initial problems
Hi,
I have the LPC-2119 ARM Starter kit:

http://www.robotchat.org/index.php?topic.0

The problem I'm experiencing is. No matter what version of Windows I'm
trying to use, the LPC2000 Flash utility from Phillips (Which came on
the CD) refuses to let me change the device name to my LPC2119 device,
it seems stuck on LPC2016. Also Trying to "Get Device Info" always
times out. (I'm using the supplied serial connector to the LPC-2119
Stamp, which is shown in the above post) Any ideas what could be
wrong. (Should I be using the FlashMagic tool instead (I've noticed
this mentioned a few times when googling).

Thanks for any help.

Jas

According to the pictures in the link you sent earlier, there seems to
be a button marked "BSL". Did you keep it pressed while powering up the
board or while pressing reset? (And don't forget to enter the proper
crystal frequency into the programming tool!)

Perhaps you have to set one or more of the pins to the correct levels for
ISP. Some configuration is always needed, unless it is ISP only, without a
JTAG connection.

Thanks,
This is without JTAG. (I have an ARM-USB-TINY JTAG programmer on
order with another board). As you may have guessed, this is my first
experience of Arm boards so all help is appreciated.

According to the instructions that came with the CD, I need to connect
the Serial cable directly to the connector on the stamp, then press
the reset button to enable me to communicate to it from the Phillips
flash utility.

Cheers,

Jas

Please check whether u have selected the DTR/RTS box -----placed at the
corner window of the LPC Flash tool -------If it is not selected then pls
select it

Hi,
I followed the instructions that came with the stamp plus a cable
the came with it. So I'm hoping all this is ok. There is no jumpers on
the actual stamp (The Serial programming cable connects directly to
the stamp). As the LPC2000 flash software wasn't even letting me
select the correct chip, I'm assuming it just isn't working correctly.
I'll try tonight with the MagicFlash software and see if I get any
further.

Thanks for the help

Cheers,

Jas
