Some good news from TI today:
"...
I checked with our tool group experts and the description from you
error is really indicating a problem found at our recently shipped
ez430 sticks.
...
Please let me know your address and I will order a new stick for you.
..."

Beginning Microcontrollers with the MSP430

>>>1 question: If the serial EEPROM was completely blank on my EZ430,
would Windows be able to report "MSP-FET430UIF JTAG Tool"?

Obviously it would depend on whether that string is stored in the F1612 Flash or in the EEPROM..
It sounds like the string is in Flash and other USB stuff (that is 'variable') is in EEPROM.
Or something like that...

Kris

Thanks for the feedback.
I got an answer from TI today: "try again"...

1 question: If the serial EEPROM was completely blank on my EZ430,
would Windows be able to report "MSP-FET430UIF JTAG Tool"?

I will keep trying to get some support from TI.

Thanks,
Fred

I had the same problem this week.

What happend is that the Eeprom came in blank. We then switched with a Eeprom from another Ez430 and it worked fine. If you dont have a spare Ez430 to change the Eeproms then keep trying to contact TI and they will replace it for you.

Huh, you must have the wrong driver somewhere. It doesn't sound like a HW problem since it
enumerates and also because you don't get a message 'HW failed/not installed' or such.

Kris

Subject: [msp430] eZ430-F2013 USB driver installation on Win XP

Hi,

I just received the eZ430-F2013 I ordered.
Windows XP SP2 identifies the dongle as "MSP-FET430UIF JTAG Tool" but
is no able to locate any appropriate driver.

- tried both "let windows find the driver" and "provide the path for
the driver to windows" (C:\Program Files\IAR Systems\Embedded
Workbench 4.0\430\drivers\TIUSBFET\WinXP for IAR)
- tried both IAR (latest eval. version downloaded on TI web site) and
Code Composer (latest eval. version downloaded on TI web site)
- tried 2 different PCs
- tried 2 different eZ430-F2013 hardware
- tried disconnecting the target board (MSP430F2013) (seems to work
for 1 person)

I always get the same error message: (something like) "Windows is not
able to locate an appropriate driver for your hardware".
No answer from TI after 2 weeks.

Any help would be appreciated.

Fred
