I came to know that ,this problem may arise when there is a
requirement in updation in emulator's firmware.

i was getting same error.. problem was one of the jumper connecting my power
supply to controller and JTAG ic was not there.. as soon as i placed jumper
everything was working fine...

in cce do following settings..
go to menu windows--> preferences-->c/c++-->debug-->msp430 debugger.
in msp430 debugger select the device u are using and select the proper port
either LPT1 or LPT2 or USB emulation, whichever u are using and then click
ok.
it might be possible that these options are different in project properties and
in preferences.. so do the above settings in preferences also..
if still it doesnt work then their might be loose connection of you board.
