Cool down guys. Most on the list will not support the use of an
illegal copy, even though many of us will holler loudly about stupid
per cpu /seat / eyeball licences.
If someone asks for support related to a closed tool chain, without a
reasonable preamble, point him to the right list or dont reply. there
is no need to go ballistic with crappy personal hygiene statements,
moral statements etc.
As far as i can see nobody has plugged warez here, which imo should
call for an immediate ban. Nor do i see any need for pontification
and witch hunts.
And before some one calls me names, I use only floss and i too am
totally against using an unlicenced copy.
I use Linux and the GNU tool chain for all my development, be it AVR,
MSP430, ARM, or native PC. The cost of that development environment
is initially quite high because of the learning curve, but monetarily
it's free.
Stealing software makes one a thief, plain and simple. But it also
shows laziness, because they are unwilling to learn how to use Open
Source tools.
Defending a lazy thief doesn't show a lot of character either. I side
with Paul.

I and my company DO NOT advocate any kind of piracy, and use only open
source software. Personally I am against piracy, but the objection was about
banning people using a particular software.

There is no way that a simple user of this forum, such as myself, can possibly
determine the license status of another user's toolchain.
It's great to huff and puff about IP rights but this is a public forum
populated also by people with no commercial interests; just ordinary people that
happen to use the NXP product line.
I suppose those of us who are just simple users could refrain from responding
but that is hardly the point of these groups. Somebody asks a question:
somebody provides a suggestion. Simple as that...

I'd have thought that most systems/software developers would at least pay
lipservice to intellectual property, after
all that is our business. On one side, I admire your honesty for at least
giving your name and declaring this to be your company policy. On the other I
find it difficult to believe that anyone in our business should be stupid enough
to call himself a thief and furthermore declare which stand to avoid at a fair
in a country that very much treasures intellectual property. I doubt any
potential Western customers who read your mail would be happy providing you
with the information necessary for you to support their products if they saw
your attitude to other people's property.

He would sing a different tune if people were stealing his products. It's
hard enough making a living selling niche product like software for ARM without
having freeloaders, worse there are free high quality compilers available so
there is no excuse for being a thief or supporters of one.
