The launchpad / ezUSB / FET430 use the same or very similar software, so it
may work.

I know they all work with mspdebug and the old closed-source .so lib.

Hi Rob,

Arrgh! I didn't read your original post thoroughly enough. My apologies.
You need to use the MSP-FET430UIF adapter when using the Elprotonic
software. I'm guessing it will not work with the Launchpad.

Barry

Hi Rob,

Arrgh! I didn't read your original post thoroughly enough. My apologies. You need to use the MSP-FET430UIF adapter when using the Elprotonic software. I'm guessing it will not work with the Launchpad.

Cheers Everyone for all of your replies, Thank you 8-)

Barry, I had a look at Elprotonic’s software and from what I can gather it uses JTAG or Spy By Wire to program the MSP430 MCU. Does the Launchpad ( with the chip insatalled into it ) support JTAG/ Spy By Wire ( this one eludes me ) or could I just wire the launchpad via Spy By Wire to a breadboard with the chip in it and program it this way ?

Thanks again and Cheers,

Rob.

You could also download from Elprotronic their FETPRO-430 lite. It's free. That's what I use when I need to program a hex file.

Cheers,
Barry

Hi Rob,
I have also had this problem. The work round that I used was to use FET-Pro430 Lite
(http://elprotronic-fet-pro430-lite-version-for.software.informer.com/ http://elprotronic-fet-pro430-lite-version-for.software.informer.com/) I have not yet found out how to save a HEX file after assembling code. I find the development package very un intuitive which is a pity as the processor has some very nice features. I have gone back to using PICs and Atmel chips.

Les.

On Linux, just grab "mspdebug" from Sourceforge (or straight from your
distro - "apt-get install mspdebug" or whatever.) Mspdebug may also be
available for Windows, Mac etc but I haven't tried them.

Works fine with my launchpad and ez430f2013 USB sticks.

Hello Group,
I'm a long time listener and first time poster, pretty well up with the hardware side of MCU's but lack a fair bit of knowledge on the software side, hence my question today...
Does the MSP430 Lauchpad have a hex file downloader ? ( not comparing the MSP430 to PIC or AVR but they have software that does just that ) I've downloaded and looked CCS 5.5, IAR 5 and Energia and cant see where to " import " a hex file to download it into the MSP430.
If anyone has any thoughts or directions that would be appreciated,
Thanks everyone,
Cheers,
Rob.
