ADS1298 in TI ADS1115 / ADS1118 ADC Family
The ADS1298 family by Texas Instruments represents a specialized class of high-performance, multi-channel 24-bit analog front-ends (AFEs) designed for biopotential measurements. Unlike the general-purpose ADS1115, the ADS1298 integrates low-noise programmable gain amplifiers, internal reference buffers, and right-leg drive circuitry. It is specifically engineered to simplify the complex signal chain required for medical instrumentation, providing high-resolution data acquisition while significantly reducing board space and power consumption in sensitive diagnostic equipment.
Variants in This Sub-Family
Variants within the ADS129x sub-family are primarily distinguished by channel density and resolution. While the ADS1298 provides eight channels, the ADS1294 and ADS1296 offer four and six channels respectively for lower-complexity designs. Furthermore, the ADS119x series offers a 16-bit alternative for applications with reduced dynamic range requirements. Specialized versions like the ADS1299 are optimized specifically for the ultra-low noise thresholds required in EEG applications.
