DS1307Z in DS3231 / DS1307 RTC Family
The DS1307Z family, originally developed by Maxim Integrated and now part of the Analog Devices portfolio, consists of low-power, full binary-coded decimal serial real-time clocks. These devices handle all timekeeping functions, including seconds, minutes, hours, day, date, month, and year with leap-year compensation. Utilizing an I2C interface, these components are designed for easy integration into embedded systems requiring consistent time tracking even during main power loss through battery backup support.
Variants in This Sub-Family
Variants within the DS1307Z sub-family primarily differ based on packaging and environmental ratings. The standard DS1307Z+ utilizes a lead-free, 8-pin SOIC package suitable for surface-mount assembly. Some variants are specified for extended industrial temperature ranges (-40C to +85C), while others are rated for commercial ranges. Tape-and-reel options (T&R) are available for high-volume automated manufacturing, but the internal silicon logic and register map remain consistent across the sub-family.
