DS3231MZ in DS3231 / DS1307 RTC Family

The DS3231MZ family, manufactured by Analog Devices (formerly Maxim Integrated), consists of low-cost, extremely accurate I2C real-time clocks with an integrated MEMS resonator. These devices provide industry-leading ±5ppm accuracy (±0.432 seconds/day) across a wide -40°C to +85°C temperature range. By eliminating the need for an external crystal, the DS3231MZ simplifies design layouts, improves mechanical shock resistance, and reduces the overall footprint for space-constrained industrial and consumer timing applications.

Variants within the DS3231MZ sub-family primarily differ in their packaging and delivery formats. The standard DS3231MZ+ comes in a lead-free, RoHS-compliant 8-pin SOIC package suitable for tray or tube distribution. The DS3231MZ+TRL variant is identical in electrical specification and package dimensions but is provided on tape and reel for high-volume automated pick-and-place assembly lines. All models share the same MEMS-based 5ppm accuracy profile.
