BG96 in Quectel Cellular Modules Family
The BG96 is a series of multi-mode LTE Cat M1, Cat NB1, and EGPRS modules manufactured by Quectel Wireless Solutions. Designed for global connectivity, it utilizes the Qualcomm MDM9206 modem to deliver low-power wide-area (LPWA) networking capabilities. This family is primarily used for resource-constrained IoT applications that require a balance of extended battery life, wide-area coverage, and fallback to legacy 2G networks in regions where LTE-M or NB-IoT coverage is still maturing.
Variants in This Sub-Family
Variants within the BG96 family are largely distinguished by their regional certifications and specific hardware revisions. While the base BG96 offers global band support, certain SKU variations may be optimized for specific carrier requirements (such as Verizon or AT&T) or feature different firmware stacks to prioritize either Cat M1 or NB-IoT performance. Some variants also differ in the inclusion of dedicated Voice over LTE (VoLTE) capabilities or specific GNSS constellations depending on the target market.
