Overview

The SparkFun 09836 is a breakout board for the Analog Devices ADXL345, a small, thin, ultralow power 3-axis accelerometer. It supports high resolution (13-bit) measurement up to +/-16 g and provides digital output via I2C or SPI interfaces. This evaluation board simplifies integration by providing access to the sensor's advanced motion sensing functions like tap detection and free-fall sensing.

Why Choose This Part

This board features extremely low power consumption, drawing only 40uA during active measurement and 0.1uA in standby. The 13-bit resolution allows for 3.9 mg/LSB sensitivity across all sensing ranges, providing precise data for demanding tilt-sensing applications.

Applications

Mobile Device Motion Sensing
Detecting orientation changes and screen rotation in handheld battery-powered devices.
Free-Fall Detection
Triggering hard drive protection or emergency shut-off sequences during a drop event.
Tap and Double-Tap Recognition
Implementing gesture-based user interfaces for small wearables or industrial controls.
Low-Power Activity Monitoring
Using the built-in 32-level FIFO buffer and interrupts to wake a host MCU only when motion is detected.
