SeeedGrove Soil Moisture Sensor
Overview
The Grove Soil Moisture Sensor is an analog resistivity-based probe designed to measure the water content in soil for environmental monitoring. It operates on a voltage range of 3.3V to 5V and outputs an analog signal between 0 and 950 relative units, where higher values indicate higher moisture levels. The board features a gold-plated sensor surface to improve conductivity and resist corrosion during short-term deployments.
Why Choose This Part
The sensor utilizes the standardized Grove connector system, enabling solderless plug-and-play integration with Arduino and Raspberry Pi base shields. Its low current consumption of 35uA makes it suitable for battery-powered IoT nodes that require periodic moisture polling.

Getting Started
To use this sensor, connect it to an analog input port on a Grove Base Shield or Seeeduino board. Use the standard Arduino analogRead() function to obtain values; typical readings range from 0 in dry air up to approximately 950 when fully submerged in water. For Raspberry Pi applications, an ADC such as the GrovePi+ or a dedicated ADC module is required to interpret the analog output.
