SparkFun AD8232 Single Lead Heart Rate Monitor
Overview
The SparkFun 12650 is a breakout board featuring the AD8232, an integrated signal conditioning block for ECG and other biopotential measurement applications. It is designed to extract, amplify, and filter small biopotential signals in the presence of noisy conditions, such as those created by motion or remote electrode placement. This board breaks out all nine pins from the AD8232 IC into a standard 0.1 inch header for easy prototyping.
Why Choose This Part
The board features a high-pass filter that eliminates motion artifacts and electrode half-cell potential, ensuring a clean output signal. It includes a dedicated right leg drive (RLD) amplifier to improve common-mode rejection and leads-off detection circuitry to notify the system when an electrode has become disconnected.

Getting Started
Connect the board to an Arduino or other microcontroller using the analog output pin connected to an ADC. Use three electrodes (Right Arm, Left Arm, and Right Leg) and connect them via the 3.5mm jack or the header pins. Standard libraries for the AD8232 are available in the Arduino IDE to visualize the ECG waveform via the Serial Plotter.
