Overview

The SparkFun GPS-18378 is a MicroMod Function Board featuring the u-blox ZED-F9P GNSS receiver. It provides high-precision positioning with RTK (Real-Time Kinematics) support, enabling centimeter-level accuracy in a modular form factor. The board is designed to interface with MicroMod Main Boards via the standardized M.2 connector, offering I2C, SPI, and UART communication options.

Why Choose This Part

This board features a built-in rechargeable battery to maintain RTC and GNSS orbit data, significantly reducing Time To First Fix (TTFF). It includes a U.FL connector for flexible antenna mounting and supports a low-power standby mode of only 11uA while maintaining a typical run current of 29mA during active multi-constellation tracking.

Applications

High-Precision Surveying
Utilize RTK capabilities to achieve centimeter-level horizontal positioning accuracy for land mapping and GIS data collection.
Autonomous Vehicle Navigation
Provide precise heading and location data for UGVs and drones using concurrent reception of four GNSS constellations.
Precision Agriculture
Integrate into automated farming equipment for accurate row crop navigation and field boundary optimization.

Getting Started

To use this board, you must plug it into a MicroMod Main Board (such as the Data Logger or Asset Tracker carrier) along with a MicroMod Processor Board. SparkFun provides an extensive Arduino library for u-blox GNSS modules to simplify configuration via I2C or UART. Ensure a high-quality L1/L2 GNSS antenna is connected to the U.FL port for optimal performance.
