Overview

The Adafruit Feather nRF52840 Express is a versatile Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) development board based on the Nordic nRF52840 SoC. It combines a powerful ARM Cortex-M4F processor running at 64MHz with integrated USB support and a built-in battery charging circuit. This board is designed for low-power wireless applications and is fully compatible with the Feather ecosystem of expansion wings.

Why Choose This Part

This board features native USB support, allowing it to act as a MIDI, keyboard, or disk drive device without an external bridge chip. It includes 1MB of Flash and 256KB of SRAM, providing ample space for complex applications and RTOS implementations. The integrated LiPo battery management and standard Feather pinout make it ideal for rapid prototyping of portable electronics.

Applications

Low-Power Wearables
Developing battery-operated fitness trackers or health monitors that require long battery life and BLE connectivity.
Wireless HID Devices
Creating custom Bluetooth keyboards, mice, or game controllers using the native USB and BLE stacks.
IoT Sensor Nodes
Building remote sensor stations that transmit data over Bluetooth to a gateway or smartphone.
Mobile Interfacing
Prototyping devices that need to interface with iOS and Android applications via the Bluefruit app.

Getting Started

Development is supported through the Arduino IDE using the Adafruit nRF52 BSP or via CircuitPython for fast scripting. The board comes pre-programmed with the UF2 bootloader, enabling easy firmware updates by dragging and dropping files onto the device when it appears as a USB drive. For advanced debugging, the standard SWD pins are exposed on the bottom of the PCB.
