Overview

The Adafruit 4494 is a precision barometric pressure sensor breakout featuring the Infineon DPS310, capable of measuring from 300 to 1200 hPa with high accuracy. This board includes integrated level shifters and a voltage regulator, allowing it to operate safely with 3V or 5V logic and power. It is designed for easy prototyping with both standard headers and plug-and-play STEMMA QT connectors for I2C communication.

Why Choose This Part

The DPS310 provides excellent noise performance at 0.02 Pa and high relative accuracy, making it superior to many older barometric sensors. The inclusion of STEMMA QT and Qwiic compatibility allows for solderless integration, while the onboard circuitry ensures compatibility across a wide range of microcontrollers from 3V to 5V.

Applications

Altimetry
Measuring changes in altitude with high precision for drones, hikers, or wearable fitness trackers.
Indoor Navigation
Detecting floor-level changes in buildings by sensing minute pressure variations.
Weather Stations
Monitoring atmospheric pressure trends and ambient temperature for localized forecasting.
Vertical Velocity Sensing
Calculating climb and sink rates in RC aircraft and variometers.

Getting Started

Connect the breakout via the STEMMA QT cable to an MCU like an ESP32 or Arduino, or solder headers for breadboard use. Use the Adafruit_DPS310 library available in the Arduino Library Manager or the corresponding CircuitPython driver to begin reading pressure and temperature data over I2C.
