Overview

The 47L16T-I/SN is a 16Kbit EERAM, a specialized non-volatile memory that combines the high performance of SRAM with the reliability of EEPROM backup. In the event of a power loss, the device automatically transfers SRAM data to the non-volatile EEPROM storage using an external capacitor, ensuring data integrity without complex software overhead. It operates over a 2.7V to 3.6V range and utilizes a standard 1 MHz I2C interface.

Why Choose This Part

The EERAM architecture provides unlimited endurance for SRAM writes, bypassing the wear-out limitations of standard EEPROM. It offers a low-cost alternative to NVSRAM by utilizing a small external capacitor instead of a battery for non-volatile backup. The 1 MHz I2C clock frequency and 400 ns access time ensure responsive data handling for real-time applications.

Applications

Data Logging and State Storage
Ideal for frequently updated system states or logs where data must survive sudden power loss without wearing out flash memory.
Industrial Process Control
Used to store calibration constants and machine positions that change constantly during operation.
Smart Meters
Reliably records usage metrics where power interruptions are common and data loss is not acceptable.

Getting Started

To implement the auto-store feature, connect a small capacitor (typically 10uF) to the Vcap pin as specified in the datasheet. Use standard I2C libraries to interface with the device at the 0xA0 control byte address. Microchip provides the ADM00713 EERAM PICtail Plus Daughter Board for evaluation with their Explorer development kits.
