Overview

The 74HCT244PW is a high-speed CMOS octal buffer and line driver featuring 3-state outputs. It is designed specifically to interface between TTL logic levels (4.5V to 5.5V supply) and CMOS systems, providing two 4-bit sections with independent output enable controls. This part is ideal for driving bus lines or increasing the fan-out of microcontrollers in mixed-voltage environments.

Why Choose This Part

This device combines the low power consumption of CMOS with the speed and input thresholds of TTL logic. It features high noise immunity and robust ESD protection, while the TSSOP20 package provides a compact footprint for high-density designs. The dual 4-bit architecture allows for flexible control of independent signal groups via the active-low output enable pins.

Applications

Level Shifting
Translating 5V TTL logic signals to CMOS compatible inputs within a 4.5V to 5.5V supply range.
Bus Driving
Managing data flow on 8-bit or 16-bit address and data buses by providing high-current drive capability for capacitive loads.
I/O Isolation
Using the 3-state outputs to isolate sub-circuits or peripherals from a shared communication bus when not in use.
Signal Buffering
Refreshing weak logic signals across long PCB traces to maintain signal integrity and meet timing requirements.

Getting Started

To use this buffer, connect the VCC pin to a 5.0V supply and GND to system ground. Decouple the power supply with a 0.1uF ceramic capacitor placed close to the VCC pin. Ensure the 1OE and 2OE pins are pulled low to enable the respective 4-bit output banks, or pull them high to put the outputs in a high-impedance state.
