Overview

The ACS723LLCTR-40AU-T is a high-accuracy, galvanically isolated Hall-effect current sensor IC designed for unidirectional DC sensing up to 40A. It features an integrated 0.65 mOhm primary conductor and a ratiometric analog output that scales with the 5V supply voltage. The device includes an internal shield to provide high dV/dt transient immunity and patented digital temperature compensation for stable operation across its temperature range.

Why Choose This Part

This sensor provides high-side sensing capability with 2.4kV RMS galvanic isolation, eliminating the need for expensive opto-isolators or high-side differential amplifiers. Its integrated shield minimizes output noise caused by fast voltage transients, while the pin-selectable bandwidth allows engineers to optimize the tradeoff between response time (5us) and noise performance.

Applications

Motor Control
Monitoring DC motor current for torque control and stall detection in industrial and robotics applications.
Solar Inverter Monitoring
Measuring unidirectional DC current from photovoltaic strings for power tracking and performance monitoring.
Power Distribution Units
Real-time load monitoring and overcurrent protection in high-current DC power distribution systems.
Battery Charging Systems
High-side or low-side current sensing in chargers to manage charging profiles and prevent overcurrent conditions.

Getting Started

To evaluate this sensor, provide a stable 4.5V to 5.5V supply and connect the primary current path to the SOIC-8 high-current pins. Use the BW pin to select between 20kHz or 80kHz filtering depending on your application noise requirements. The analog VOUT pin can be interfaced directly to a 5V microcontroller ADC, where 0A corresponds to 10% VCC and 40A corresponds to 90% VCC.
