Overview

The ADXL362 is an ultra-low-power, 3-axis MEMS accelerometer optimized for always-on motion detection and battery-powered applications. It provides selectable ranges of +/-2g, 4g, and 8g, a low noise/sensitivity tradeoff across ranges, and a digital SPI output. The part supports deep-sleep modes and has a built-in temperature sensor for basic thermal monitoring.

Why Choose This Part

Choose the ADXL362 when you need an accelerometer tuned for extremely low standby current and reliable wake-on-motion features. Its wide supply range (1.6 to 3.5 V) makes it easy to interface to low-voltage MCUs, and SPI output simplifies integration with common microcontrollers. Built-in sleep modes and a temperature sensor reduce the need for external components in low-power designs.

Applications

Wearables and fitness trackers
Always-on step counting, activity recognition, and low-power motion detection while preserving battery life.
Battery-powered IoT sensors
Wake-on-motion capability for event-triggered telemetry in asset trackers, environmental sensors, and remote monitors.
Security and intrusion detection
Tamper and vibration detection for smart locks, alarm sensors, and perimeter devices using very low standby current.
Power-sensitive industrial monitoring
Long-life vibration or motion monitoring in remote installations where mains power is unavailable.
Portable consumer electronics
Orientation and gesture detection in handheld devices where minimal quiescent current is important.

Getting Started

Plan to interface the ADXL362 over SPI and verify your MCU supports the required SPI mode and voltage domain (1.6-3.5 V). Use the device interrupts for wake-on-motion to minimize MCU active time and follow the datasheet guidance for decoupling and layout to preserve low-noise and low-power operation. Check Analog Devices application notes and example firmware for register programming and power-mode sequencing; a small development MCU or evaluation board that exposes SPI and GPIOs for interrupt handling is sufficient to get started.
