ADuM5000

Analog Devices
Integrated isolated power/digital isolation solution from Analog Devices suitable for low-power isolated supplies and digital interfaces.
Active1,251 in stock

Overview

The ADuM5000 is an isolated DC-to-DC converter based on Analog Devices isoPower technology, providing up to 500 mW of regulated, isolated power. It eliminates the need for a separate isolated DC-to-DC converter in low-power designs by integrating the transformer and control electronics into a 16-lead SOIC package. This device supports output voltages of 3.3V or 5V and provides 2.5 kV of isolation.

Why Choose This Part

The primary advantage is the high level of integration, which significantly reduces PCB footprint compared to discrete isolated transformer designs. It offers built-in thermal overload protection and operates across a wide temperature range of -40C to +105C, making it suitable for harsh industrial environments.

Applications

RS-232/RS-422/RS-485 Isolation
Providing isolated power to transceivers in industrial communication buses to prevent ground loops.
Industrial Field Bus Power
Supplying power to sensor nodes and field instruments that require galvanic isolation from the main system bus.
Gate Drive Supplies
Used as a compact isolated power source for high-side gate drivers in power electronic applications.

Getting Started

To implement the ADuM5000, ensure adequate decoupling capacitors are placed close to the VDD1 and VISO pins to manage high-frequency switching noise. Engineers should follow the recommended PCB layout guidelines regarding creepage and clearance to maintain the 2.5 kV isolation rating. Evaluation can be performed using the ADuM5000EBZ evaluation board to test load regulation and efficiency.
