Battery Management Highly Efficient, Regulated Dual-Output, Ambient Energy Manager for Up To 7-cell Solar Panels with Optional Primary Battery
4,990 in stock

Overview

The AEM10941 is a highly efficient ambient energy manager designed to extract DC power from solar panels with up to 7 cells while simultaneously managing energy storage in a rechargeable battery or supercapacitor. It features a regulated dual-output system that provides a low-voltage supply for microcontrollers and a high-voltage supply for radio transceivers. The integrated cold-start circuit allows the device to begin harvesting energy from input voltages as low as 380mV and an input power of only 3uW.

Why Choose This Part

The device features an ultra-low-power start-up and high-efficiency conversion, maximizing the utility of low-ambient light conditions. Its dual regulated outputs simplify system design by providing dedicated rails for both the logic and the RF power amplifier. The inclusion of a primary battery backup connection ensures continuous system operation even when the harvested energy and storage element are completely depleted.

Applications

Self-Powered IoT Sensors
Extracts energy from small solar cells to power wireless sensor nodes in smart building and industrial environments.
Wearable Electronics
Manages energy harvesting from flexible solar panels to extend the battery life of fitness trackers and smart watches.
Industrial Monitoring
Provides a maintenance-free power solution for remote monitoring systems where primary battery replacement is costly or impractical.
Remote Controls
Replaces traditional primary cells in home automation controllers with solar harvesting and energy storage.

Getting Started

Engineers should begin with the AEM10941 evaluation board to test the harvesting efficiency with their specific solar cell and storage chemistry. Configuration is handled through hardware pins to set the storage element voltages, eliminating the need for complex software initialization. Ensure proper PCB layout of the boost and buck inductors to minimize EMI and maximize power conversion efficiency as specified in the e-peas design guidelines.
