Overview

The AL5809-15P1-7 is a constant-current LED driver designed to simplify the drive of LED strings by providing a fixed 15mA output without external current-setting resistors. This linear regulator operates over a wide input voltage range from 2.5V to 60V, making it suitable for both low-voltage DC and higher-voltage rectified AC applications. Its two-terminal design allows it to be placed in series with LEDs as a high-side or low-side current sink/source.

Why Choose This Part

The device features a high 60V rating and excellent power supply rejection, ensuring stable illumination even with noisy power rails. The PowerDI123 package provides superior thermal performance compared to standard small-outline packages, and the +/- 5 percent current accuracy maintains uniform brightness across multi-string designs. Its simple two-pin configuration minimizes PCB footprint and reduces the overall Bill of Materials (BOM).

Applications

Industrial Signage and Indicators
Provides steady current for status indicators and channel letters in environments with fluctuating supply voltages.
White Goods and Appliances
Efficiently drives internal cavity lighting and control panel backlighting in domestic appliances.
Instrumentation Illumination
Delivers consistent brightness for dial and panel lighting in measurement and control equipment.
Offline LED Lamps
Used in rectified AC mains applications to maintain constant LED current despite line voltage variations.

Getting Started

To use this part, place it in series with your LED string, ensuring the maximum voltage drop across the device does not exceed its thermal dissipation limits at 15mA. Proper copper pour area should be connected to the cathode pin to facilitate heat sinking through the PowerDI123 leadframe. No external capacitors are required for stability, but a bypass capacitor at the supply entry point is recommended for long-lead applications.
