Overview

The AL8843QSP-13 is an AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualified hysteretic mode step-down LED driver designed for driving high brightness LEDs from a voltage source between 4.5V and 40V. It features an integrated 40V NDMOS switch capable of delivering up to 3A of continuous output current with efficiency reaching 97 percent. The device simplifies design by using a single CTRL pin for both PWM and analog dimming, as well as chip-level standby control.

Why Choose This Part

This driver offers 4 percent output current accuracy and high efficiency in a compact SO-8EP package with an integrated power switch. It provides inherent protection against open-circuit and short-circuit LED conditions, alongside thermal shutdown to ensure system reliability in harsh automotive environments. The 8uA sleep current and low 350uA quiescent current make it suitable for power-sensitive battery-operated automotive subsystems.

Applications

Automotive Daytime Running Lights
Utilizes AEC-Q100 qualification and 3A drive capability to power high-intensity DRL arrays in passenger vehicles.
Front and Rear Fog Lights
Provides high efficiency and integrated protection features required for external vehicle safety lighting.
Automotive Interior Lighting
Enables smooth analog or PWM dimming for customizable cabin ambient lighting and map lights.
Industrial LED Signage
Acts as a robust buck regulator for high-current LED strings in environments with supply voltage transients up to 40V.

Getting Started

Designers should prioritize PCB layout for the SO-8EP package to ensure proper heat dissipation through the exposed pad. A low-ESR bulk capacitor and a fast-recovery Schottky diode are required for the hysteretic buck topology to maintain stable 1MHz switching. Evaluation is typically performed using a custom prototype PCB or the manufacturer's reference design to validate dimming linearity across the 10 percent to 100 percent analog range.
