Overview

The AM26LS31CN is a quadruple differential line driver designed for high-speed digital data transmission over balanced lines. It is engineered to meet ANSI TIA/EIA-422-B and ITU Recommendation V.11 standards, providing four independent drivers with complementary outputs in a single 16-pin package. This device is particularly effective for driving long cables in noisy industrial environments where differential signaling is required to maintain signal integrity.

Why Choose This Part

This driver features TTL-compatible inputs and high-output impedance in power-off conditions, preventing bus loading when the device is inactive. Its complementary output-enable inputs provide flexible control for enabling or disabling all four drivers simultaneously, while the high output current capability of up to 20mA ensures reliable signal transitions across long cable runs.

Applications

Industrial RS-422 Networks
Used as a transmitter in point-to-point or multi-drop communication links for factory automation and Modbus systems.
Motor Encoder Interfaces
Translating single-ended optical or magnetic encoder signals into differential pairs for robust feedback to motion controllers.
Process Instrumentation
Reliable data transmission for field transmitters, including pressure and temperature sensors, in high-interference areas.
Avionics Imaging Systems
Providing high-speed digital video or sensor data transmission in military and aerospace electronics requiring differential signaling.

Getting Started

To integrate this part, place it near the signal source and provide a stable 5V supply with local decoupling capacitors. The PDIP-16 package is breadboard-friendly for prototyping; however, for high-speed differential signaling, ensure PCB traces are length-matched and use 120-ohm termination resistors at the receiver end of the bus. No software configuration is required as it is a purely hardware-level logic translator.
