Overview

The AP3031KTR-G1 is a high-frequency boost DC-DC regulator specifically designed for driving white LED backlights in small to medium LCD panels. It operates at a fixed 1MHz switching frequency and integrates a 1.4A internal switch, allowing for compact external inductor and capacitor selection. The device supports a wide input voltage range from 2.7V to 16V, making it suitable for single-cell Li-ion batteries or multi-cell configurations.

Why Choose This Part

The integrated 1.4A switch and 1MHz frequency enable high power density in a small TSOT-23-6 package. It includes comprehensive protection features such as cycle-by-cycle current limiting, thermal shutdown, and output overvoltage protection. The built-in soft-start and undervoltage lockout simplify power-on sequencing and protect the system from inrush currents.

Applications

7 to 10 Inch LCD Backlighting
Provides efficient power and PWM dimming control for LED strings in tablets and industrial panels.
GPS Receivers
Drives display backlights in portable navigation devices with a small TSOT-23-6 footprint.
Digital Photo Frames
Utilizes the high-frequency switching to minimize ripple and EMI in consumer display electronics.
Portable DVD Players
Manages high-voltage LED strings from a low-voltage battery source using boost topology.

Getting Started

To implement the AP3031KTR-G1, place the input and output ceramic capacitors as close to the IC pins as possible to minimize high-frequency noise. Select a low-ESR inductor rated for at least 1.4A saturation current and use a logic-level PWM signal on the CTRL pin for brightness adjustment. Refer to the datasheet application circuit for calculating the feedback resistor (VFB) to set the desired LED string current.
