Overview

The AS3933 is a highly integrated 3-channel low-frequency (LF) wake-up receiver designed to detect ASK-modulated signals and trigger an external microcontroller. It operates within a voltage range of 2.4V to 3.6V and features an ultra-low sleep current of 2.3 uA, making it ideal for battery-powered systems that must remain in a low-power state until an RF trigger is received.

Why Choose This Part

The AS3933 offers best-in-class sensitivity with an adjustable level, allowing for reliable wake-up patterns even in noisy environments. Its 3-channel architecture supports 3-D antenna arrays to ensure omnidirectional signal reception regardless of device orientation. Additionally, the integrated 32-bit programmable wake-up pattern detection significantly reduces false triggers compared to simple frequency-only detectors.

Applications

Active RFID Tags
Enables long battery life in tracking tags by keeping the main processor asleep until the tag enters a specific LF field.
PKE (Passive Keyless Entry)
Used in automotive and building access systems to detect the proximity of a key fob and initiate authentication.
Wireless Sensor Networks
Allows remote sensors to maintain a zero-duty-cycle radio state, waking up only when polled by a wake-up transmitter.
High-Value Asset Tracking
Provides precise localized wake-up for assets moving through controlled gates or loading docks.

Getting Started

Engineers can evaluate the AS3933 using the official ScioSense demonstration kits which include the LF transmitter and a battery-powered receiver board. Design involves tuning the LC resonant circuits for the desired carrier frequency and configuring the 32-bit wake-up pattern via the SPI interface. Ensure that the 32 kHz crystal or internal RC oscillator is calibrated to maintain accurate pattern correlation timing.
