AS5600-ASOT
Overview
The AS5600-ASOT is a 12-bit magnetic rotary position sensor designed for contactless potentiometers and angle measurement. It uses Hall effect technology to detect the orientation of a simple two-pole magnet rotating over the center of the IC. This sensor provides either a ratiometric analog voltage or a PWM-encoded digital output, making it easy to interface with legacy analog systems or modern microcontrollers.
Why Choose This Part
The AS5600 features a unique 12-bit DAC output that allows it to drop into existing analog potentiometer circuits without firmware changes. It includes built-in magnet detection and automatic low-power modes that reduce current consumption to as low as 1.5mA in sleep mode. The 8-SOIC package and standard I2C interface provide a straightforward integration path for surface-mount designs.

Getting Started
To evaluate the chip, use the AS5600-SO_EK_AB adapter board which breaks out the 8-SOIC pins to a standard header. Connect the sensor via I2C to an Arduino or similar MCU to configure the start and stop positions in the internal OTP memory. Ensure the magnet is positioned within the specified 0.5mm to 3.0mm air gap for optimal 12-bit accuracy.
