Overview

The AS6C4008-55PCN is a 4-Megabit asynchronous CMOS static RAM organized as 512K x 8 bits. It operates over a wide voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V, making it compatible with both legacy 5V systems and modern low-power 3.3V logic. The device features an access time of 55ns and extremely low standby current, typically around 4uA.

Why Choose This Part

The 32-pin DIP package allows for easy prototyping on breadboards and through-hole PCB designs without requiring surface-mount soldering. Its wide supply voltage range eliminates the need for level shifters in mixed-voltage environments, while the 55ns access time supports high-speed asynchronous bus operations.

Applications

Legacy System Maintenance
Ideal for replacing obsolete 512K x 8 SRAM in vintage computing hardware and older industrial controllers requiring 5V DIP packages.
Embedded Data Logging
Used as external workspace memory for microcontrollers that require more RAM than available on-chip for buffering sensor data.
Battery-Backed NVRAM
The low standby current allows the device to retain data for extended periods when paired with a small lithium coin cell and controller.

Getting Started

To use this SRAM, connect the 19 address lines (A0-A18) and 8 data lines (I/O0-I/O7) to your microcontroller or microprocessor bus. Ensure the Chip Enable (CE), Output Enable (OE), and Write Enable (WE) pins are managed according to the timing diagrams to prevent bus contention. Decouple the VDD pin with a 0.1uF ceramic capacitor placed close to the device.
